Open Source Development Lab Elects Randy Terbush to Board of Directors
PORTLAND, OR -- In a move that will add more depth to an already exceptional board, the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) has elected Randy Terbush, Chairman and CTO of Covalent Technologies, to its Board of Directors. OSDL is an independent, vendor-neutral, non-profit organization dedicated to enabling Linux for enterprise and carrier-class functionality. Comprised of leaders of the Linux community and the computer industry, the OSDL Board of Directors sets the governing policies and priorities for lab operations. "As a founder of the Apache Software Foundation, Randy's contributions to Open Source software speak for themselves," said Timothy D. Witham, OSDL lab director. "His knowledge and understanding of both Open Source processes and technology will be a true asset to the lab. We are honored that Randy has agreed to serve the lab in this capacity." Supported by a consortium of industry leaders, OSDL fulfills a critical need of Linux developers to access high-end enterprise hardware for programming and testing. OSDL does not create projects; instead, it accelerates projects created and supported by the Open Source community. Randy Terbush is a founder of Covalent Technologies and one of the original eight developers of the Apache HTTP Project. He began his involvement with open source in 1989 working on such projects as 386BSD/*BSD, Linux and X386/Xfree86. In 1995 Randy and the other original members developed the first version of Apache, which today has the market-share lead in Web server software, running on roughly 18 million of the world's Web servers. "OSDL's mission to enable open source programming for the enterprise and telecom data center is vital to the evolution of Linux and the open source development model," said Randy Terbush. "I'm very happy to be part of the board of directors, and to work on furthering OSDL's goals." Supported by a global consortium of industry leaders, the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) is an independent, vendor-neutral, non-profit organization dedicated to enabling Linux and Linux-based programming for enterprise and carrier-class functionality worldwide. Headquartered outside Portland, OSDL fulfills a critical need in the open source development community to have access to high-end hardware for programming and testing.
