Supercomputing Center Decision Delayed Until October

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) has put off until October a decision whether to locate a $75 million supercomputing center in Cheyenne, Wyoming or in Boulder, Colorado. The corporation and its National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder have been looking for a site for a supercomputing center that would allow them to undertake geoscience research in addition to atmospheric studies. The corporation announced that it will delay a decision on where to locate the supercomputing center to allow more time to hear from the scientific community. A decision on where to build the center had been expected in July or August. The National Science Foundation (NSF) is expected to pay most of the cost of building the supercomputing center. Both Wyoming and Colorado are offering incentives to try to lure the project to their states.
