Small Tree Communications Appoints Derek Robb, VP of Sales
Small Tree Communications, designers and manufacturers of high-performance networking and storage products for Apple’s Mac OS X, announces the appointment of Derek Robb as the company’s vice-president of sales and business development. A leading figure in the hi-tech industry for more than three decades, Robb will guide Small Tree as it continues to strengthen its position in the marketplace. “Small Tree Communications has developed a sterling reputation throughout the high-performance networking community without committing significant resources to a dedicated marketing effort,” Robb stated. “With the pending introduction of BlazeFS and other products geared to a substantially larger audience, now is the ideal time for Small Tree to enhance its sales and marketing efforts. Having worked with members of Small Tree at previous stops in my career, I know that I am fortunate to be joining a team with passions similar to mine.” 
Upon receiving his doctorate in theoretical atomic physics from the Queen’s University of Belfast in 1971, Robb’s impressive professional career began as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Colorado’s Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics. Shortly thereafter, he joined Los Alamos National Laboratory, one of the United States’ pre-eminent research facilities, to work on calculating basic atomic and molecular processes. After five years with Los Alamos National Laboratory, Robb was recruited by Cray Research, to start the company’s applications department. Over the next 16 years, Robb steadily ascended the Cray company ladder to the position of Vice-President of Marketing and Applications. For the past decade, Robb has worked with Silicon Graphics, a leader in high-performance computing, visualization and storage, helping design and deliver its high-end Altix products. “Since the early 1970s, Derek has been deeply involved with this country’s leading edge technology centers,” stated Corky Seeber, president of Small Tree Communications. “As we compete in highly competitive markets, we felt we needed additional expertise to more effectively reach our target audience.
