Time Warner Telecom Named Preferred Provider of Quilt

Time Warner Telecom, a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses and government, today announced it has been selected as a preferred provider of high performance network services for The Quilt's CIS project. The Quilt provides for communication capabilities among advanced regional network organizations and others dedicated to advancing research and education in the United States, such as higher learning institutions and research universities. The Quilt membership is made up of 23 regional non-profit network aggregators within the United States which pass traffic for a significant portion the U.S. university/college sites as well as the U.S. K-12 state education networks. Included in the participant base are major research and development organizations including U.S. government entities (federal, state, and local) and private corporations. The CIS project aggregates the buying power of The Quilt participants to obtain the best value Internet services. "The Quilt serves more than one hundred participants, whose aggregated bandwidth requirements for Internet service are expected to grow to more than 24 gigabits per second by the end of 2006," said Hud Croasdale, executive director of The Quilt. Time Warner Telecom met specific parameters prior to its selection as an authorized provider for the CIS project including, national pricing for The Quilt participants, peering, including number and location of public & private peering points, availability of advanced services & backbone and support services. Time Warner Telecom's national footprint can provide service to more than half of The Quilt member cities.
