SilverStorm Technologies Announces RDS InfiniBand Interconnect for Oracle

SilverStorm Technologies, a Certified Partner in the Oracle PartnerNetwork, announced today that it is working in tandem with Oracle on trials with select customers of Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) InfiniBand interconnect solution for Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle's database clustering solution used by over 7,000 customers to provide high availability and scalability in the database tier. The RDS InfiniBand interconnect solution was developed by SilverStorm and Oracle to leverage the power of InfiniBand to provide a cost effective and highly scalable database cluster networking solution that meets the stringent stability and availability requirements of Oracle's most demanding enterprise customers. RDS over InfiniBand provides a high bandwidth, low latency, ultra reliable IPC protocol and transport system that exactly matches Oracle's requirements for IPC communication between Oracle Real Application Clusters nodes. "Oracle views RDS over InfiniBand as a key technology to increase the throughput and decrease the latency of cluster networks," stated Juan Loaiza, vice president, Systems Technology Group, Oracle. "Oracle is pleased to partner with SilverStorm to deliver the RDS over InfiniBand solution to our customers." When combining RDS with SilverStorm's multi-protocol InfiniBand solutions for Oracle Database 10g, data center architects can consolidate conventional networks, the cluster interconnect, and storage networks onto a single InfiniBand infrastructure creating a simplified, higher performance network at a reduced cost. SilverStorm's family of InfiniBand products supports Oracle's enterprise grid computing strategy by allowing customers to construct large, high performance cluster networks using low-cost, commodity server, blade and storage resources that are allocated dynamically to meet application demand. "SilverStorm continues to lead in the development of high performance, enterprise-ready cluster solutions for Oracle Real Application Clusters," said Russ Hawkins, CEO of SilverStorm Technologies, "and we look forward to continuing our efforts with Oracle and the open source community to make RDS the gold standard in database cluster interconnects." Enterprise customers can immediately evaluate Oracle Database 10g Release 2 and Oracle Real Application Clusters with RDS and SilverStorm's QuickSilver 3.2 host release for Linux.
