Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Now Available on Microsoft Windows

Oracle today announced the general availability of Oracle Database 10g Release 2 on the Microsoft Windows platform. Now Windows customers can benefit from the many grid computing, performance, scalability, and security enhancements to Oracle Database 10g Release 2. With the availability of Oracle Database 10g Release 2 on Windows, Oracle extends its commitment to provide Windows users with a higher quality of service, while reducing the cost and complexity of data management. Specifically, Oracle Database 10g Release 2 incorporates new features for Windows developers including Oracle Database Extensions for .NET -- offering .NET stored procedures for database developers. This feature enables developers to use the .NET language they are most familiar with, reducing the time it takes to build and deploy Oracle Database applications. In addition, Windows customers can take full advantage of Oracle Database 10g Release 2's unique features, including: -- Oracle Automatic Storage Management -- the integrated database volume manager and file system provides simplified database storage management and provisioning; -- Oracle HTML DB -- enables users to easily build, deploy and manage secure Web applications using only a Web browser; -- Oracle Real Application Clusters -- increases application availability and scalability by allowing applications to run unchanged across multiple connected or "clustered" servers; -- Oracle Transparent Data Encryption -- enables customers to encrypt critical database data on disk without the need to rewrite the applications that access the data; and, -- XML Query -- the industry's first commercial support for the W3C XML Query standard for access to XML data. "For two decades, Oracle has met the needs of Windows customers by continually optimizing its products for Windows," said Andy Mendelsohn, senior vice president of Database Server Technologies, Oracle. "Oracle Database 10g Release 2, with its enhanced grid computing, security and self-management capabilities, delivers the highest scalability, fault tolerance and security at the lowest cost." Oracle Sponsors Microsoft Professional Developers Conference Oracle today also announced its sponsorship of the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, September 13-16, 2005. Oracle will showcase its portfolio of leading products for the Microsoft Windows and Microsoft .NET platforms, including Oracle Database 10g Release 2 for Windows. Attendees can meet with Oracle experts at booth #609 to learn more about deploying Oracle-based applications on Windows and .NET. Additionally, developers will learn how to take advantage of Oracle 10g's unique capabilities that allow customers to streamline and optimize their IT operations using Oracle on Windows. Oracle will highlight the following products, features and technologies at its booth: -- Oracle Database 10g Release 2 for Windows -- Oracle Fusion Middleware on Windows -- Oracle Data Provider for .NET -- Oracle Database Extensions for .NET -- Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio .NET -- Oracle HTML DB Long-standing Commitment to Windows Platform Since 1985, Oracle has helped its customers build mission-critical database systems on Microsoft platforms. In May 2004, Oracle joined the Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner program to offer better integration between Oracle Database and Visual Studio .NET 2003. Additionally, Windows customers can take advantage of Oracle Real Application Clusters which allows them to turn a cluster of low-cost servers running Windows into a highly available, scalable and secure platform for running all of their database applications.
