Massively Parallel Technologies (MPT), a provider of on-demand high-performance computing, announced today that the company has selected Dell Inc. as its hardware provider for its BioTech Virtual Power Center (VPC). "The BioTech VPC is our first commercial offering and is an essential part of MPT's success. Dell's PowerEdge servers not only meet our first VPC requirements but are well-positioned to support future VPC growth to tens-of-thousands of nodes," said MPT's Chief Executive Officer, Scott Smith. Dell is an outstanding hardware vendor and a business partner that will help make affordable supercomputing powers a reality through MPT's VPCs." The BioTech VPC will eventually support all aspects of computational biotechnology. This includes searches, visualization, in silico recombination, molecular dynamics, and molecular docking. Dell has twenty-one supercomputing clusters in the TOP500 list with three entries ranked in the top fifty. Their commitment to the high-performance computing cluster (HPCC) market delivering scalable standards-based clusters fits well into MPT's VPC vision of affordable, on-demand, supercomputing power using commercial off-the-shelf hardware.
