DOD Taps Time Warner Telecom for Hawaiian Fiber Network

Time Warner Telecom, provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, has been awarded contracts for six OC-192 (10-Gbits/sec) fiber network connections from the Department of Defense to serve military locations in Hawaii. The 20-year lease contracts total $12 million. The Department of Defense is leasing the fiber-optic connections from Time Warner Telecom to deliver high-speed communications services, including voice, data, and Internet access. Hickam AFB, Fort Shafter, and Camp Smith are three of the six locations on the island of Oahu that will use the Time Warner Telecom networks. The contracts were awarded by the Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization-Pacific (DITCO-PAC)/PL71 in Pearl Harbor and were solicited under full and open competition. "The Defense Department contracts validate our ability to competitively deliver high-speed, highly secure, and reliable communications services to the military," asserts Galen Haneda, general manager for Time Warner Telecom in Hawaii. "We deliver these types of services every day to businesses and organizations that require high-performance transmission of their critical information. Our services are based on redundant connections utilizing highly reliable SONET networks to meet and exceed a company's availability goals," he adds. "By combining those capabilities with top-of-the line customer service, we've established a value proposition that can't be beat."
