Fluent Announces Support For Intel's EM64T 64-bit Processor

Fluent Inc., the world's leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software solutions announced today its support for the Intel server platform based on the Intel Xeon processor at 3.60 GHz with Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) 64-bit processor and the Intel 7520 chipset with PCI Express technology, in an upcoming release of FLUENT 6.2. The solution integrates Intel Xeon processor-based servers supporting Intel EM64T with PCI Express(a) technology and the InfiniBand(a) I/O fabric. Building on the successes of Intel's architecture for the FLUENT user community, Intel EM64T extensions, together with several innovations in microprocessor architecture and resource ability, virtually eliminate the limitations in addressing large data set, while simultaneously and transparently supporting peak performance of 32-bit codes. FLUENT customers employing large scale clusters of compute-nodes with a high-speed interconnect benefit from support for PCI Express, which enables high-speed low-latency data transfers between nodes - a pivotal element in scalable parallel computations. FLUENT performance analyses using standard FLUENT benchmark cases show 20-40% gains when compared to 32-bit versions of the solver, and demonstrates excellent scalability - up to 128 processors and beyond for typical simulations undertaken in industry today. Fluent customers can now take full advantage of Intel EM64T in Intel Xeon processor and InfiniBand -based platforms to address the ever-increasing computational simulation needs. "Clusters built on Intel Xeon processor-based platforms that support Intel EM64T and PCI Express technology, combined with low-latency interconnects, offer Fluent a way to dramatically reduce turnaround time and expand its ability to use CFD for virtual prototyping," said Tom Macdonald, Intel vice president, Enterprise Platforms Group, and general manager, Advanced Components Division. "InfiniBand's superior bandwidth and latency enables parallel applications to distribute larger data sets over more nodes and still achieve higher efficiency," notes Roni Ashuri, VP of Engineering at Mellanox Technologies. "Fluent is leading the industry because their customers can now benefit from the unsurpassed performance and value of InfiniBand." The Intel Xeon processor supporting Intel EM64T and InfiniBand will be showcasing performance and parallel scalability, using Fluent CFD software applications for the 10 TeraFlop sized demonstration, at the Supercomputing SC04 show, Nov. 6-12, in Pittsburgh, PA.
