Up to 30 Percent Performance Boost for Fujitsu's PRIMEPOWER Servers

SUNNYVALE, CA -- Fujitsu Technology Solutions, Inc., a member of the worldwide group of Fujitsu’ companies, today announced the immediate availability of 810-, 788- and 700-MHz SPARC64 GP' processors for their PRIMEPOWER' family of Solaris' compatible servers. Since the introduction of PRIMEPOWER servers two years ago, these new processor versions represent a 100 percent system performance improvement over the life of the servers. They are expected to provide up to a 30 percent performance boost over the previous 675-MHz processor systems. Once again Fujitsu has delivered on its investment protection promise: to ensure ever higher levels of performance and availability required by today's most demanding enterprise applications and databases. PRIMEPOWER 800, 1000, and 2000 enterprise class servers will be available with 788-MHz processors, while mid-range 650/850 will be available with 810MHz, and entry level servers 200/400 will be available with 700MHz processors. Existing customers can take further advantage of these improvements through the ability in PRIMEPOWER systems to mix technologies, making it easy for customers to add capacity to their installations based on already proven technology. The continued provision of enhanced performance in PRIMEPOWER servers gives customers the ability to maximize their return on investment with continued investment protection. The ease of upgradeability for the PRIMEPOWER server also supports Fujitsu's mission to enable adaptive enterprises to have a flexible IT infrastructure. "PRIMEPOWER leads the industry in powerful performance for mission-critical and rigorous transactional environments, as demonstrated by its position as the leading server for Oracle 9i and the many recent benchmarks it has set," said Richard McCormack, vice president of Fujitsu Technology Solutions, Inc. "The SPARC/Solaris PRIMEPOWER servers also offer the greatest scalability, highest reliability, and the lowest total cost of ownership and price/performance ratio of any other UNIX system." PRIMEPOWER servers hold a number of performance benchmark world records with its 563Mhz and 675MHz processors. Now with the addition of the new processors, it can be expected that these benchmarks will be reset. Benchmark details can be found at: http://primepower.fujitsu.com/en/benchmark.html. PRIMEPOWER servers provide up to 128 processors, offering unmatched adaptability and investment safekeeping for businesses that want long-term advantage and a rapid return on their initial expenditure. This is the greatest scalability available in today's marketplace. The boost in performance to 810/788/700 MHz processors means plenty of new headroom for growth; making it one of the best choices all round for customers looking to maximize their business value from Solaris servers.
