Alcatel-Lucent enables Transtelco to offer high-performance, reliable cloud services to business and carrier customers in the United States and Mexico

Transtelco is to conduct a trial of CloudBand, the unique solution from Alcatel-Lucent (euronext paris and nyse:ALU) that supports delivery of 'business class' cloud services - with higher performance and reliability than those available via the public Internet.

In the trial Transtelco will use Alcatel-Lucent's CloudBand to offer cloud services that feature higher connection speeds for faster responsiveness, higher bandwidth and stronger service guarantees than other service offerings currently on the market. For the trial Transtelco will connect customers to its El Paso data center.

Alcatel-Lucent's CloudBand solution is unique in the market for combining data center and wide-area networking resources, and enabling communications service providers to utilize these resources collectively when delivering cloud services to their customers wherever they are located.

Robert Vrij, President of Alcatel-Lucent's Americas Region and head of Global Strategic Alliances, said: "We've all witnessed the explosion of cloud services to deliver apps and access computing power. The challenge for the public cloud is that it does not have the levels of quality and performance necessary to support 'business class' operations in industries such as finance, insurance, health care and certain government sectors which are very sensitive to system delays and interruptions. Only our CloudBand solution combines the computing power and flexibility of the cloud with the high performance, reliability and security of communications networks to provide 'carrier cloud' services."

This CloudBand trial deployment builds upon the recent joint endeavor between Alcatel-Lucent and Transtelco to build a fiber network in central and south Texas. The route runs from Dallas south to Austin, San Antonio, Laredo and down to McAllen to connect Transtelco's wholesale and enterprise customers to its core network backbone.

Arturo Iglesias, CTO for Transtelco, said: "Transtelco is forging a path as a fully integrated carrier that's simplifying the world of telecommunications for service providers and carriers and enterprises throughout the United States and Mexico. Offering carrier class cloud services to our customers is an integral part of our vision and we believe that Alcatel-Lucent's CloudBand solution offers capabilities that are unique in the market, and will provide us with a great opportunity to explore the role that cloud services can play in our overall service mix."
