Visualization Sciences Group (VSG) announces acquisition of amira 3D visualization and analysis software for life sciences and bio-medical data

Visualization Sciences Group SAS (VSG) announces that it has signed today a definitive agreement under which VSG acquires amira 3D visualization software from Visage Imaging GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pro Medicus.

VSG develops Avizo is a leading software application that provides advanced 3D visualization and state-of-the-art analysis capabilities to scientists, researchers and engineers who require great insight into complex 3D image data, in materials and environmental sciences, geosciences, and engineering applications.

Sharing the same architecture and the same underlying technology kernel, amira is the historical well-known brother-product of Avizo, dedicated to life sciences and bio-medical data visualization and analysis.

By acquiring amira, VSG expands and accelerates its leading position in 3D visualization and analysis software tools in all scientific and industrial domains, from life sciences to geosciences, materials science and engineering applications.

VSG will continue to strongly develop the amira product family with a specific focus on delivering state-of-the art 3D visualization features for even the most challenging life sciences and bio-medical data coming from all types of sources and modalities, from preclinical CT, MR images to microscopy and molecular data. Through its worldwide presence, VSG will provide all current and future amira users with outstanding customer service and support, and will accelerate the development of amira as the leading software solution for visualizing and understanding life sciences data.

"We are extremely excited to have amira on board”, says Jean-Bernard Cazeaux, President and CEO of VSG. “With the combination of amira and Avizo, VSG’s offering now addresses the whole range of scientific and industrial applications, and because they share the same technological framework, both products will mutually benefit from each other’s developments and innovations”.
