Swedish sites debug with DDT
National strategic supercomputing network relies on Allinea Software for development success
Allinea Software is opening up new possibilities for application developers and scientists at the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC) with the introduction of Allinea’s world leading software development tools across its six major facilities.
Sweden's leading users of supercomputing have international reputations in a wide variety of scientific fields. SNIC - supported by the Swedish Research Council (SRC) - provides Swedish researchers with unified access to the nation's leading supercomputers. It is also responsible for the strategic and scientific development of supercomputing in Sweden. Software development is increasingly core to national success in this strategic mission.
Making the parallel debugger, Allinea DDT, available across multiple sites provides a genuine boost for SNIC's users. “With so many users and systems, it was important to have a single tool that would support our environments well – and would enable our users to work at scale. Allinea DDT was clearly the right tool.” said Jacko Koster, Director of SNIC. “This is a step towards creating a core production environment that will be common on all SNIC resources.”
Erwin Laure, Director of PDC, Center for High-Performance Computing at KTH, continued to say, “Allinea DDT makes the task of debugging of parallel applications very easy – which gives our scientists and developers more time to focus on developing the applications and on the scientific results. We were impressed with the ease of use - our developers do not need lengthy training sessions; they are able to get straight to work. Furthermore, Allinea Software has proven to be very helpful and to truly understand the needs of our developers.”
SNIC co-ordinates Sweden's six supercomputing centers to ensure that the resources are used and developed optimally – and reliable software is a key part of that work as it seeks to minimize the CPU time wasted by software bugs and in fixing software problems.
“Our products are designed for the challenges of the varied and highly parallel environments that face users”, said Jacques Philouze, Worldwide Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Allinea Software. “It is fantastic to be working with yet another world class HPC organization and to be aiding such important work.”
