IDTaEURs Voltage Regulator Modules to power the supercomputer SGI Altix UV

Integrated Device Technology has announced on Tuesday that it has delivered voltage regulator modules (VRMs) to SGI.

Under the agreement, financial details of which were not available, SGI will use the VRMs to power Altix UV, the worldaEURs fastest supercomputer.

Altix UV will utilise the IDT Power VRMs for microprocessor, ASIC and memory power requirements.

IDT said that it has been providing power solutions for SGI servers since the Altix system was introduced in January 2003.

The VRMs selected by SGI utilise the IDT-patented coupled inductor technology to improve performance and reduce power consumption in computing applications.

SGI Altix UV, which has been designed for fast, open and scalable computing, utilises the Intel Xeon 7500 series processors, the SGI Altix UV scales to 2,048 cores and 16 TB of memory.
