Louisiana Optical Network Initiative Provides Connections for New Orleans Conference

The Louisiana Optical Network Initiative, or LONI, will provide Internet  access for the winter seminar meeting of The Association for Information Communication Technology Professionals in Higher Education, or ACUTA, which will take place Jan. 24-27 in New Orleans.

ACUTA is an international, nonprofit organization of members from 800 institutions that promotes advanced communications technology use at colleges and universities. ACUTA hosts regular meetings in different locations each year, and its winter 2010 meeting is coming to Louisiana.

LONI staff will provide proper connections at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans, where the conference will take place, to ensure the conference has a fully functioning wireless network.

“As part of its economic development mission, LONI will partner with conferences or major events whose focus is on the education community coming to our state to provide access to the Internet,” said LONI Director of Networking Lonnie Leger. “This makes it easier for the hosting organization, and gives them an incentive to have future events in Louisiana.”
