NetEffect Debuts 10Gb Accelerated Ethernet Adapter In SFP+ Form Factor
New design will be displayed at OFC: NetEffect has announced availability of a 10Gb accelerated Ethernet adapter supporting the modular small form factor pluggable (SFP+) interface. The compact SFP+ module is over 30 percent smaller and uses 30 percent less power than other optical modules. It supports both SR and LR optical media as well as direct-attach copper cable. In addition to a single-port card, the NetEffect SFP+ adapter also will be available in a dual-port configuration that enables two of the same or different modules to be connected simultaneously, expanding connectivity options for individual servers. The new NetEffect NE02010Gb SFP+ adapter will be on display at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC), in AMCC booth #3015, February 26 – 28, San Diego. AMCC designed and supplies the QT2025 10Gbps PHY chosen by NetEffect for this adapter card. The AMCC QT2025 is the industry's first SFI-to-XAUI PHY that supports 10GBASE-LRM, 10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-SR and 10GBASE-KR. NetEffect continues to set the standard in high performance, power efficiency and configuration flexibility. The NE02010Gb SFP+ adapter delivers top performance with the lowest energy usage of any 10Gb Ethernet adapter available. It draws less than nine watts for a single port/SR module and only 10 watts for a dual-port/SR modules adapter configuration, significantly less than competing solutions. Like all NetEffect accelerated Ethernet adapters, the multifunction NE02010Gb SFP+ adapter maintains high performance and ultra-low latency under real-world data center loads and supports simultaneous networking, clustering and storage traffic using only a single firmware and OS driver image. Its unique Virtual Pipeline Architecture strikes the perfect balance between hardware state machines and embedded CPU cores, incorporating the industry's first full implementation of the iWARP extensions to Ethernet, including TCP offload, iWARP (RDMA over Ethernet) and User-level Direct Access. This technology increases performance while reducing overhead for all types of networking traffic without a need to modify applications. The result is performance for industry standard Ethernet previously found only in proprietary interconnects. “Customers today are focused on achieving higher performance at lower power levels in ever-smaller form factors,” said Rick Maule, CEO and president, NetEffect. “The SFP+ adapter is the most recent addition to our family of 10Gb accelerated Ethernet adapters, all of which have demonstrated an ability to meet the most stringent data center requirements for networking, storage and clustering. The AMCC QT2025 was a natural choice to make this form factor possible.” “We are pleased to have been selected by NetEffect. NetEffect and AMCC are working together to make 10Gb Ethernet SFP+ an attractive option to an even broader audience,” said Neal Neslusan, Director of Transport Marketing at AMCC. “At OFC AMCC is showcasing the new NetEffect 10Gbps adapter using our QT2025 10Gbps Ethernet leadership PHY device.” Pricing and Availability The NetEffect NE02010Gb SFP+ 10Gb accelerated Ethernet adapter is available in single or dual-port configurations, both of which support the full range of SFP+ modules, including optical fiber and copper cable. Pricing starts at $1495 for a single port/SR card and $1995 for a dual-port/dual SR card.
