NCSA Position Notice -- Search #11659

Software Developer, Advanced Applications Support Group: Overview: The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Software Developer position available. This position works with a team of researchers to develop and enhance the open source software toolset known as PerfSuite. The first of two components is focused on PerfSuite enhancements as they relate to interoperability and integration with state-of-the-art open source performance toolsets developed by collaborators at the University of Oregon-Eugene (TAU) and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville (PAPI, KOJAK). The second component will involve acting as a resource in support of related performance analysis software and its effective use on NCSA leading-edge computing platforms by NCSA's national scientific and engineering community. The position includes responsibility for programming and documentation of developed tools as well as working with project collaborators and users to evaluate effectiveness and shortcomings of developed tools. The Software Developer will work with technical writing staff to develop documentation and training material for developed tools and will involve general support for related software. Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or related field required (Master's preferred). Alternate degree fields may be considered/accepted depending on the nature and depth of the experience as it related to current NCSA technologies.
  • Two years related work experience is required.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of UNIX/Linux Operating System internals.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of C and Java.
  • Must have strong experience developing in a UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Must have experience with software management tools and practice (source code control, tools for automatic configuration/installation).
  • Must have working knowledge of current high-performance computer architectures.

This is an academic professional position at NCSA and is a 12-month, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search.
