HPTi: Postdoctoral Positions

High Performance Computing and Computational Nano and Bio-Sciences: High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTi) of Reston, VA is recruiting candidates for HPC postdoctoral positions in the research areas of High Performance Computing and Computational Sciences with a concentration in Computational Nano and Bio-Sciences. Multiple positions are immediately available at several research sites in the mid-Atlantic area and involve working in a US Army funded research program managed by a consortium led by Stanford University, HPTi, NASA Ames Research Center, New Mexico State University, Morgan State University and the University of Texas at El Paso. The Consortium is responsible for managing a unique collaborative research environment in computational sciences and engineering between the Government, Academia, and Industry. The overarching focus for Computational Nano- and Bio-Sciences is research and development through high performance computing to address: • Design, control, creation, and optimization of components and systems whose effects are manifest in both Army personnel and materiel. • Optimization issues related to component or system reliability, versatility, functionality, deploy ability, cost, and efficacy and spanning both peace time and war time Army materiel. • Although primary emphasis is on scales ranging from sub-atomic to molecular elements, these may be superseded by more explicit consideration of issues related phenomenology at scales implicit but more relevant to laboratory settings, i.e., the multi-scale problem. • Multidisciplinary areas related to discovery of phenomena or mechanisms or processes, new or optimized devices/detector/sensors, stronger/lighter/functional bulk materials and surfaces, and processing and fabrication. Computational sciences research challenges for Nano and Bio-Sciences include, but are not limited to: • Threat detection or the problem of definitive identification of various forms of toxicological agents to include sensor and detector design. • Prophylaxis or the study of preventative measures against agents. • Drug design or the study of treatment techniques post-exposure and their associated delivery systems. Systemic predictability or the development of understanding of human interactions with agents. Biomimetics focusing on the area of biologically-inspired designs, either in morphology or mechanism. Technology transition relating to all of the above. • Phenomenological simulations through high performance computing to investigate mechanisms (any phase: gas, liquid, or solid) including robust modeling capability to simulate multi-scale processing and fabrication scenarios, (i.e., computationally-guided manufacturing and fabrication). • Materials effects from quantum through molecular scales using any or all of the appropriate methods (uantum, classical, or novel methods). • Materials effects from quantum through continuum scales using any or all of the appropriate methods (quasicontinum, asymptotic homogenization, bridging scales, coupling-of-length scales, etc). • Materials design through simulation of novel multifunctional materials (active, optical, biological, structured, and/or electronic) Simulations of biomimetic or bio-interfaced material designs. Development of computationally-guided design tools: theory, modeling, and simulation for high throughput screening of imminent experimental designs Applicants must: • Have a PhD in engineering, computer sciences, applied mathematics, or related fields • Be a US citizen and meet eligibility requirements to hold a Secret level clearance. • Have experience with high performance computing and computational structural mechanics, structural dynamics, fluid dynamics, molecular dynamics, biology, chemistry, material sciences, sensor modeling, signal processing, and numerical analysis The length of appointment for the postdoctoral positions is typically two to three years.
