GigaSpaces and Voltaire announced the formation of a new partnership with the aim of eliminating the network performance bottleneck in enterprise Grid solutions. The combined solution provides a high speed messaging infrastructure leveraging GigaSpaces' Grid-based solution for real time business applications and Voltaire's InfiniBand interconnect solutions for high performance Grid computing. The solution is ideal for customers seeking to move transactional applications such as market data and trading applications from expensive SMP machines to high performance Grids. The joint solution is the first to address the needs of fast data Grids and transactional enterprise Grid computing. GigaSpaces Grid server, which provides a shared memory based distributed messaging infrastructure, leverages the RDMA capabilities of Voltaire's InfiniBand-based Grid interconnect. The solution will run on Linux-based commodity servers and storage devices. "Together, GigaSpaces and Voltaire offer a powerful solution, and a compelling value proposition for enterprises considering making the move to Grid-based transaction processing," said Gad Barnea, GigaSpaces vice president of product marketing. As more and more companies turn to Grid computing as an economic and highly-scalable solution for distributed transaction processing, network speeds -– once seemingly boundless -- have become the new bottleneck, holding back performance of distributed enterprise applications. The GigaSpaces and Voltaire solution is excellently suited for real–time, resource-savvy applications, enabling customers to achieve superior performance over low-cost infrastructures. The GigaSpaces Grid server and Voltaire's network components are pure Java applications, allowing for maximum portability across multiple platforms. The joint GigaSpaces-Voltaire solution allows creation of large-scale data Grids that can be accessed for queries and updates of application data in less than one millisecond. The solution provides very wide bandwidth for processing and maintaining critical data in memory, with extremely low latency and high scalability -- including adding and removing resources to clusters in real time without system restart.
