Cray Advanced Technical Workshop Attracts 66 Participants

Cray Inc. reported that the 2004 Cray Advanced Technical Workshop, held June 16-18 in Bologna, Italy, attracted 66 participants, including many representatives of European and U.S. high performance computing (HPC) centers. Co-sponsored by Cray Europe and the Cray User Group, and hosted by CINECA, the multiple-day event featured presentations by the centers, as well as Cray experts, on the latest scientific advances being produced on Cray systems and on future plans. Participants heard presentations from CINECA, Forschungszentrum Juelich, Warsaw University-ICM, Sandia National Laboratories, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and from Cray executives and technical leaders. "I am very pleased that our meeting surpassed all expectations for our attendees," said Ulla Thiel, Cray director of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "Participants were very excited about the event and about seeing Cray return in the same tradition as in earlier years. This was an open technical environment of very high quality. It is clear that we need to make the Cray technical workshop an annual event in Europe." Along with sharing our mutual achievements, this allows us to more closely align Cray product plans with the real-world requirements of our customers. As the only major vendor focused entirely on HPC customers, exchanges like this are crucial for Cray."
