Cray Appoints Jill Hopper VP of Government Programs

Cray today announced the appointment of Jill Hopper to the position of vice president responsible for government programs. With more than 20 years of government affairs experience at the federal level, Hopper will be responsible for managing Cray's government relations office in Washington, DC, developing and implementing annual legislative strategy and maintaining strong relationships with Executive and Legislative branch officials. "High performance computing enables the scientific breakthroughs and industry advancements that contribute to our country's continued scientific and technical leadership, economic competitiveness and national security," said Peter Ungaro, president and CEO of Cray. "It's an important time in the HPC industry with an increased need for supercomputers with more computational capability that simultaneously operate with maximum application, power and cost efficiency. Jill brings the wealth of government relations experience that will enable Cray to partner with the government to continue to develop the country's next-generation supercomputers." Most recently, Hopper served as vice president of government relations for SRA International, a leading provider of information technology services. Prior to this appointment, Hopper served as director of government relations for Batelle and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs for Secretary William S. Cohen. Hopper worked for the U.S. House of Representatives from 1982-1992 where she staffed several appropriations subcommittees, including the subcommittee on defense, during tenures with Congressman Bernard J. Dwyer and Joseph D. Early. "Cray's highly scalable and innovative systems have been used to tackle some of the most complex problems we face today, including supporting key government missions and improving everything from airplane safety and fuel efficiency to medical treatments and storm prediction," said Hopper. "I look forward to working closely with government entities and legislators to promote a strong partnership with Cray to continue to serve the nation's HPC needs and the needs of our country's vital researchers and engineers."
