Interactive Supercomputing a Red Herring 100 Finalist

Software start-up bringing breakthrough productivity to high performance computing: Interactive Supercomputing Inc.'s (ISC) Star-P software was named a finalist for the Red Herring 100 Awards, an honor bestowed upon the most promising technology companies that "will lead the next wave of disruption and cutting-edge innovation," according to the publication. ISC is among the top 200 finalists from a field of 800 companies. For 10 years, the Red Herring's editorial team has diligently surveyed entrepreneurship around the globe. Technology industry executives, investors and observers have regarded the Red Herring 100 lists as an invaluable instrument to discover and advocate the promising startups that will lead the next wave of disruption and innovation. Past award winners include Google, Yahoo!, Skype, Netscape, Salesforce.com and YouTube. ISC earned the nomination by providing a novel new way for scientists, engineers and analysts to tap the power of supercomputers to solve some of the world's biggest challenges. ISC's Star-P software is an interactive parallel computing platform that lets technical users work with their preferred PC desktop tools -- such as MATLAB, Python, R and others -- to develop models and algorithms, but run the code automatically and interactively on parallel servers and clusters. This eliminates the need to re-program the models in low level languages such as C, FORTRAN and MPI to run on the parallel computer, dramatically reducing cost and time to discovery. "Our company's focus is to deliver profound productivity improvements to scientists, engineers and analysts. This acknowledgement by Red Herring is a wonderful recognition of the success we have had to date," said Ilya Mirman, ISC's vice president of marketing. The top 100 companies will be announced at the Red Herring Spring event, May 1-3 in Monterey, Calif., at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
