APPLICATIONS
Government Agencies Use Oracle Applications
Oracle today announced that more than 33 U.S. states, 33 of the top 50 U.S. cities and 11 of the 15 largest U.S. counties run Oracle applications, including the Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise, Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and Oracle's Siebel. Further, 19 states use Oracle Applications statewide, and all 50 states rely upon Oracle technology. State and local agencies licensing, upgrading or implementing the Oracle application suites include: City of Boston, Mass.; Denver Regional Transportation District, Colo.; State of Georgia; State of Indiana; Kansas City Board of Public Utilities, Kan.; City of Las Vegas, Nev.; Lexington Fayette Urban County Government, Ky.; Miami-Dade County, Fla.; New Jersey Turnpike Authority; New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority; Oklahoma City, Okla.; City of Orlando, Fla.; Philadelphia Housing Authority, Pa.; Polk County, Fla.; Rockland County, NY.; and City of San Jose, Calif. "Oracle Applications help state and local organizations collaborate more effectively, improve constituent service, enhance administrative efficiency, align human capital with agency objectives and manage financial performance," said Oracle Public Sector Senior Vice President Mark Johnson. "With the combination of Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Siebel, our integrated sales force and industry-leading development team propel us to meet and exceed the needs of the public sector, our single largest industry. With over 1,400 public sector customers worldwide, Oracle is clearly leading the charge to help agencies efficiently manage their business operations." Kansas City Board of Public Utilities - Single View of Financial Information Speeds Decision Cycles The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (KCBPU) provides high quality electric and water services at the lowest possible cost to approximately 65,466 electric and 52,161 water customers in Wyandotte and Johnson counties. KCBPU recently implemented PeopleSoft Enterprise Financial Management, PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management, PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Capital Management and PeopleSoft Enterprise Supply Chain Management to integrate stovepiped systems, enhance administrative efficiency, automate manual processes, perform business forecasting and modeling, as well as improve compliance. Previously, Kansas City Board of Public Utilities maintained disparate systems between the water and electric sides of the business. KCBPU wanted to capture information related to capital projects (such as transferring services from one power plant to another) but did not have a vehicle to track and report on project activities. The PeopleSoft applications allow KCBPU to develop budgets for capital projects and track costs as the projects unfold, separating project costs from ongoing operational costs and allowing KCBPU to spot trends and make more informed decisions about future spending and cash flow requirements. In addition, the PeopleSoft solution enables KCBPU to produce comprehensive financial reports for its board of directors efficiently each quarter. "Oracle allowed us to gain greater visibility into our capital project information, enabling us to improve operational efficiency and plan more effectively for the future," said Kansas City Board of Public Utilities Chief Financial Officer Lori Austin. City of Las Vegas - Improving Controls For Superior ROI Through Self-Service A burgeoning metropolitan area, the City of Las Vegas attracts more than 5,000 permanent residents per month, and as a major tourist destination, the City welcomed more than 37 million visitors in 2004. The City of Las Vegas first partnered with Oracle in 1998 to enhance and streamline human resource and financial applications across its entire enterprise. Since that time, the City has continued to invest in Oracle Applications to meet its ever expanding needs and those of the City's residents. Recently, the City of Las Vegas upgraded its Oracle applications to take advantage of new capabilities and lower IT costs by streamlining internal processes and further reducing the need for software customizations. With Oracle iSupplier and Oracle iProcurement, the City improved its ability to maintain control settings that monitor order processing in near real-time. The City of Las Vegas continues to roll out additional modules and enhancements -- such as Oracle Advanced Benefits and Oracle Self Service Human Resources. In the coming months, the City is on track to implement Oracle Daily Business Intelligence, Oracle Time and Labor and begin utilizing Oracle Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) Process Manager for the City's system integration initiatives. "The City of Las Vegas has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Oracle, and we are excited to reap further benefits and expand our footprint with our most recent implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite," said the City of Las Vegas Enterprise Project Officer Patricia Dues. "Working in partnership with Oracle's knowledgeable team and our dedicated IT department will allow us to continue to see a substantial return on our investment." City of Orlando - Transforming Financial Management Optimizes Service to Citizens The City of Orlando, the fifth-ranking U.S. destination for overseas travelers, is the 28th largest and the 16th fastest growing city in the U.S., according to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2000. The City implemented JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Financial Management solution to integrate accounting and budget monitoring functions, as well as automate financial reporting. Today, every department -- encompassing 450 users in City Hall and at sites within a 50-mile radius -- uses the integrated financial management solution. The City of Orlando's JD Edwards system replaced a 1980s-era homegrown legacy system. The financials system now in place is meeting the critical business needs of the rapidly growing city. Previously, the City's financial reports were produced on a monthly basis by the City's information technology (IT) department. Following the Oracle implementation, managers throughout the city government can immediately access and manage financial information in near real-time. The implementation provided an immediate return on investment by freeing up 10,000 annual developer hours, which were previously used for system enhancements and modifications, as well as financial report writing. Prior to the implementation, City employees had to manually enter building permit fees into the legacy system. The revamped system allows for automatic accounting for permit fees, helping to ensure that financial data is current and accurate. The productivity improvements resulting from the citywide integration of financial functions will become increasingly important as Orlando's population of 186,000 grows to an estimated 211,000 by 2010. "JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Financial Management solution was the unanimous choice of our selection committee," said City of Orlando Chief Security Officer and Deputy Chief Information Officer John A. Matelski. "Accommodating our growth projections, the financial management solution is a flexible and capable product, which we are confident will support our continued goal to optimize operations, improve constituent services and streamline the government compliance process. Additionally, we are delighted that Oracle has offered lifetime support for its family of applications and we look forward to evaluating migration paths in the years ahead."
