This position supports the NAVOCEANO Major Shared Resource Center (MSRC) a DoD High Performance Computing (HPC) Center and serves as the primary liaison with the MSRC user community. This position assists users with correcting program problems, porting programs from other HPC architectures and optimizing a user's code to efficiently perform on MSRC computational resources. Responsibilities of this position also include: * Responsible for user requirements definition and servicing, and Customer Relations. * Answers user questions via email, telephone, or walk-in. * Resolves user problems with second/third tier User Support staff. * Develops product/service specifications and test procedures to ensure user requests are implemented correctly. * Performs benchmarking on existing and new HPC resources. * Collaborates with the DoD HPC benchmarking community to assure proper benchmarks are developed and applied to the NAVOCEANO MSRC resources. * Serve as the Advanced Technology Consultant for the NAVO MSRC User community MINIMUM SKILLS REQUIRED: PhD in a related Scientific or Technical Discipline 8+ years of HPC related user application experience support; Working knowledge of IBM RS/6000 SP4 and SP4+ systems Demonstrated grasp of scientific programming using C, C++, and FORTRAN; experience with developing code with Message Passing Interface (MPI) . Experience in one of the following Computational Technology Areas: : Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Climate/Weather/Ocean Modeling and Simulation (CWO), Computational Electromechanics/Acoustics (CEA), Computational Chemistry/Materials Science (CCM), Computational Structural Mechanics (CSM) or Signal/Image Processing (SIP). Excellent customer interaction skills are required to perform the above assignments. General Position Description Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for software. Determines computer user needs; advises hardware designers on machine characteristics that affect software systems such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Typical Minimums Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
