Quadrics’ New Software Release Provides Support For Rocks Clusters

Quadrics Ltd., global leader in high speed interconnect for supercomputing Linux clusters, announced its new software release, ‘Hawk’, which includes support for Rocks v3.3.0. A new version of RMS, RMS 3.x, the Quadrics cluster management toolkit that provides job launch and resource management, is also being released. Quadrics Hawk not only provides support for RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 and Fedora Core 3 and has been tested on the standard Red Hat Advanced Server and SuSE distributions, it significantly improves the performance of intra-node MPI with single-copy process to process memory copies without the need for shared memory FIFOs. Quadrics kernel patches are available when user’s production use require added functionalities such as the ability to communicate from pageable virtual memory without locking down memory used in inter-process communication; however the most recent releases of the Quadrics device driver modules provide support for use of the QsNetII (Elan4) hardware with standard, unpatched Linux kernels. The new Quadrics software release has also been fully tested with the Rocks base and standard kernel and HPC roll. The Rocks Quadrics Roll will be available for download on the Rocks website its Web site and from Quadrics’ website (mailto: support@quadrics.com for details). "We are very excited to see QsNet’s outstanding messaging performance being made available as a Rocks roll where all the details of Elan4 device driver compilation, message-passing library compilation and network configuration are completely automated for the user." Philip Papadopoulos, Program Director for Grids and Clusters at SDSC. Building a Quadrics-based high-performance Rocks cluster is now much easier with the availability of the Quadrics Roll for Rocks (V3.3 and V4.0)," said Laurence Liew, CTO of Scalable Systems. "Scalable has enjoyed working closely with Quadrics to develop the Quadrics Roll for the Rocks community, and will continue to bring state-of-the-art Rocks cluster technology such the Rocks web-console and the new Rocks web-services framework to the Rocks community." "Quadrics continues to invest in hardware and software development to enable our customers to obtain the maximum possible productivity from their Linux Clusters,” commented Cristoforo Romanelli, CEO of Quadrics. “System administrators, especially in corporate IT departments, will appreciate the benefits of Quadrics Hawk software release and the integration with the Rocks cluster environment. We are grateful to the support of Scalable Systems in providing this integration capability." Dr Kenneth Tan, CEO of OptimaNumerics, said, "This technology integration of advanced Quadrics software and superior Scalable Rocks marks an important step forward, enabling customers to leverage on best-of-breed technologies to assure availability and enhance productivity. OptimaNumerics is delighted to be part of this process."
