Cray Inc. Wins Cray X1 Supercomputer Order from Warsaw University

SEATTLE--Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (Nasdaq:CRAY) today announced an order for a Cray X1(TM) supercomputer system and related services from Warsaw University's Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modeling (ICM), Warsaw, Poland. The order includes a planned upgrade to the Cray X1e successor system. Other terms were not disclosed. The Cray X1 system, scheduled to be installed in stages starting in fourth-quarter 2003, will be used to enhance national weather forecasts for Poland and to support leading-edge research in the mathematical, natural and computational sciences, including bioinformatics. "ICM was a finalist for the prestigious Computerworld-Smithsonian Award, honoring the world's greatest achievements in science. "The ICM order advances our strategy for growth in international markets and in the weather, climate and bioinformatics sectors," said Cray said Jim Rottsolk, Cray chairman and chief executive officer. Cray announced earlier that Spain's National Institute of Meteorology (INM) ordered a Cray X1 supercomputer system.
