Texas Tech University Selects AVAKI Grid Technology

Cambridge, Mass. - Avaki Corporation, a leader in commercial grid software solutions, announced that Texas Tech University has chosen AVAKI's grid technology to fully exploit existing computing resources across its research departments for improved researcher productivity, with initial applications in physics and chemistry. With AVAKI's software, Texas Tech is able to leverage its existing technology investments by harnessing unused CPU cycles from hundreds of lab machines 24 hours a day to provide researchers secure, wide-area access to a virtual supercomputer. Researchers now have the ability to initiate compute-intensive jobs from geographically distributed locations for such tasks as chemical analysis, protein folding, molecular modeling, and other complex calculations. "After carefully evaluating grid software from a number of vendors, we determined that AVAKI offered the best solution to meet our goals of increasing researcher productivity and exploiting unused processing power," said Dr. Phil Smith, director of high performance computing at Texas Tech University. "While we are currently using AVAKI's software to meet the increasing demands of our users for more computational resources, AVAKI's comprehensive grid solution appealed to us because it will allow us to potentially extend our grid capabilities to include wide-area data access in the future. TechGrid captures our investment in desktop and networking upgrades, and we look forward to continued success with AVAKI as we extend our grid to include additional departments within the Texas Tech system." "The Texas Tech implementation is a great example of an organization looking to AVAKI grids to fully leverage their existing investment in technology, to dramatically improve the efficiency of its researchers," said Tim Yeaton, AVAKI's president. "The fact that Texas Tech selected our grid software over a number of alternatives is a testament to our leadership position in the space. Texas Tech recognized the advantages of our fully integrated software solution, our ease of deployment, and our commitment to overcoming the computing challenges increasingly facing research teams." The AVAKI grid solution pools heterogeneous resources across an enterprise, making them easily accessible on-demand. With AVAKI grids, research and development organizations can overcome problems such as: the need for secure access to fresh and consistent data; a uniform environment that is easy for researchers to use and for IT professionals to administer, and a highly available computing infrastructure that delivers maximum application performance and reliability. AVAKI provides the industry's only commercial, comprehensive grid solution that enables secure, wide area access to data, processing power and application resources in a single, uniform operating environment. AVAKI's software simplifies the enormous complexity associated with accessing compute and data resources across geographically dispersed organizations, significantly reducing administrative burdens associated with managing distributed resources. Unlike toolkits, AVAKI grid software is fully-functional packaged commercial software that is rapidly deployed with no required changes to existing applications or business processes.
