Cray Names New VP, Government Programs

SEATTLE, WA -- Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (Nasdaq NM:CRAY) today announced the appointment of Christopher Jehn as vice president of government programs. Jehn, who will be based in Washington, has served as Assistant Director for National Security of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) since 1998. From 1989 through 1993, he was Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Management and Personnel. Jehn brings more than 30 years of related experience to his new position at Cray, including extensive prior work in areas related to defense, national security and energy. "Chris Jehn has exceptionally deep first-hand experience with defense, energy and military affairs issues," said Cray Inc. President and CEO Jim Rottsolk. "While he represents our interests in Washington, his knowledge and expertise will also help us better understand the needs of our customers in public sector areas where supercomputers have long been a critically important resource." As Assistant Director of the National Security Division of the Congressional Budget Office, Jehn served as the office's principal spokesman for national security matters, and was the primary contact on defense issues for congressional committees. Prior to the CBO, Jehn served as an independent consultant on several state and federal government projects. From 1997 through 1998, Jehn served as one of 12 appointees to a commission created by Congress to evaluate and recommend changes to benefits programs for members and veterans of the armed services. Jehn's work in the public sector also includes service during 1997 as the Executive Director of the National Defense Panel, a group of independent, non-partisan defense experts appointed by the Secretary of Defense in consultation with Congress to assess and evaluate certain Defense Department strategies and programs. Jehn was the Director of the Strategy, Forces and Resources Division of the Institute for Defense Analyses from 1993 to 1995 and served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Management and Personnel in the U.S. Department of Defense from 1989 through 1993. In this role, he was responsible for all personnel policy and oversight of recruiting, training, compensation, support and management of the Defense Department's three million military and civilian personnel. He also was the Defense Department's senior public spokesman and advocate for personnel policies and budgets. Before joining the Defense Department in 1989, Jehn spent more than 15 years with the Center for Naval Analyses, where his positions included Director, Institute of Naval Studies, and Vice President and Director, Marine Corps Operations Analysis Group. Through his years of service, Jehn has received many awards including the Benjamin Hooks Distinguished Service Award from the NAACP and the Distinguished Public Service Medal from the U.S. Department of Defense. He is the author of numerous publications on topics ranging from defense and military issues to organizational change and the environment.
