ScaleMP's aggregation software is available for HP ProLiant blades

HPC Customers to Benefit From Large Shared Memory and Single-System Management: ScaleMP, a leading provider of virtualization solutions for high-end computing, today announced the availability and support of its vSMP Foundation Standalone software on HP ProLiant server blades. Customers in the High-Performance Computing (HPC) market can now take advantage of ScaleMP’s powerful and cost-effective virtualization solutions, benefiting from large shared memory systems, high core count and easier management through single-system configurations. vSMP Foundation Standalone software will allow customers to create a single virtual Symmetrical Multiprocessor (SMP) system with up to 32 sockets (128 cores) and up to 1 TB of shared memory in an energy-efficient, dense package. The combination of vSMP Foundation and HP Cluster Platform Workgroup System built on the HP BladeSystem c3000 enables workgroups and small organizations to deploy high-performance resources outside the data center, running mixed large memory and parallel workloads. The Workgroup System utilizes HP BladeSystem in a small, compact design that delivers up to 1.5 Teraflops, while decreasing power consumption and heat generation. With a single operating system across all blades, the solution dramatically reduces the dependency on central IT. ScaleMP vSMP Foundation can scale beyond the Workgroup System, with cluster implementations featuring the HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure. HP BladeSystem is designed to share components between enclosures, making it fast and easy to create, customize and grow in a high-density, power-efficient platform. In conjunction with the HP ProLiant BL460c server blade, these blade systems offer cutting-edge performance for large data centers, as well as midmarket or remote sites. “I am excited to announce the interoperability of our aggregation software on HP BladeSystem server platforms,” said Shai Fultheim, founder and CEO of ScaleMP. “Our customers can now benefit from increased performance by virtually aggregating all of the CPUs, memory and I/O resources across multiple server systems. Also, by simplifying system management, our solution eliminates the need to learn how to manage complex clusters or hire additional IT staff.” “Businesses demand high-performance technology that will handle massive workloads while generating the most power-per-watt in the least amount of physical space,” said Ed Turkel, product marketing manager, Scalable Computing and Infrastructure organization, HP. “The HP platform, coupled with ScaleMP vSMP Foundation software, offers customers an affordable, accessible cluster solution that delivers high-performance computing as well as improved operational efficiency.” Solutions based on the vSMP Foundation Standalone software deliver significantly better performance compared to traditional SMP systems by leveraging cluster price points with the benefits of single system image. ScaleMP’s vSMP Foundation Standalone aggregation platform provides customers with:
  • Up to 1 TB of shared memory for large memory requirements
  • Up to 128 cores virtual SMP, with high memory bandwidth
  • Ease of use and lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for applications, with simplified cluster and I/O architecture management
  • Improved utilization through a centralized and consolidated architecture
