Mitrionics announces hybrid computing development system

Mitrionics, Inc., developer of the Mitrion Virtual Processor and the Mitrion Software Acceleration Platform, today announced its Mitrionics MVP610 Hybrid Computing Server accelerated computing system based on the HP ProLiant DL165 G5 server with single 2.1GHz Quad-Core AMD Opteron 2352 central processing unit (CPU). The Single Socket Accelerated Server will include licensing for the Mitrion Virtual Processor (MVP), the XtremeData, Inc. XD2000F HyperTransport socket based accelerator hardware with Altera Stratix II, plus the Mitrion Software Development Kit with parallel programming language and working example code. This new MVP610 Hybrid Computing Server integrates hardware with a virtual processor and a complete parallel programming environment in a single off-the-shelf solution "The world of computation is changing for the better," stated Mike Calise, executive vice president and general manager of Mitrionics, Inc. Mitrionics Hybrid Computing Development systems are designed for industries, academics, government agencies, genome centers, data services providers, and independent software vendors (ISVs) that are interested in exploring the benefits of breakthrough hybrid computing architectures in practical workstation or server configurations. The applications that benefit from a system with at least two optimized compute processor types are those within genome informatics, internet data processing, and business process optimization, and include the most demanding applications requiring high throughput and low latency. These demanding integer-centric codes benefit from the variable bit-width operations and fine grain parallelism inherent to Altera FPGA-based co-processors coupled with AMD's advanced CPUs inside servers from the world's number one HPC supplier, HP. Processor intensive codes previously written for sequential machines continue to experience suboptimal performance levels unless they're modified to exploit the recent direct coupling of CPUs and FPGAs. The system allows users to write accelerated algorithm code for a dedicated MVP data parallel co-processor within a fully integrated XD2000F "In-Socket Accelerator" (ISA) from XtremeData, Inc. This Altera FPGA in the ISA is directly connected to the fastest AMD Opteron CPUs through the high speed HyperTransport link. The servers can be configured to operate standalone, or stacked in a cluster for highly dense green computing. The Mitrionics MVP610 Hybrid Computing Server is scheduled for availability in Q4 2008 with a list price of $19,900 USD.
