Wellcome Trust choose major Streamline Computing cluster
“Streamline Computing are delighted to have been chosen as the supplier of the new 11.52 TFlops peak computing cluster at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at Oxford University” said Streamline’s CTO, Dr. John Taylor. “We have built upon our strong relationship with Dell in this engagement and on our proven commitment to the high performance computing industry to ensure that we can deliver a systems design and supporting services which means the Wellcome Trust will have a highly efficient tool at their disposal for the delivery of world-class genetic research.” The new cluster is based on Dell M1000e enclosures which are fully populated with M600 Dell blade servers, 45TBytes of direct attached storage and an Infiniband network backbone. The solution includes a dedicated Cluster Management Appliance (CMA) per compute rack, which in turn coordinates with a master appliance to monitor the whole cluster environment and to provide cluster command and control capabilities. The overall solution architecture has been designed to deliver the maximum performance from commodity hardware supported by a dedicated Streamline technical team in order to ensure high quality optimised management and scheduling of the required HPC Environment, required applications integration and systems management training support. In addition, in order to meet the Wellcome Trust Centre’s space and power constraints, Streamline worked closely with PRSI/Eaton Williams to provide a managed water-cooled solution to maximise the available performance of this blade cluster. Streamline Computing is the UK's leading provider of High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters and services. With specialist knowledge of operating systems (including Linux, Microsoft and Unix), end-user applications and cluster middleware, Streamline provides integrated compute, storage and visualization solutions with outstanding value for money and maximum system performance. Streamline reduces the total cost of owning an HPC capability by offering pre-qualified commodity hardware, fault-tolerant system designs, professional management tools and first-class system support.
