REvolution computing continues to expand adding three new executives
Lee Edlefsen and Sue Ranney Join Fast Growing Company as VP of Engineering and VP of Product Management, along with "R" Luminary, David Smith, Director of Community: REvolution Computing, the leading commercial provider of software and support for the statistical computing language known as "R," welcomes two seasoned engineering professionals, Lee Edlefsen and Sue Ranney, to its executive management team, and announces the addition of "R" luminary David Smith as Director of Community. Mr. Edlefsen will serve as vice president of engineering and be responsible for the overall development and quality of REvolution Computing's products. Ms. Ranney is the company's new vice president of product management and will oversee product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle. Mr. Smith will be responsible for coordinating development and marketing projects between R users, developers, and the RPro community. "Between them, Lee and Sue have 45 years of experience bringing sophisticated software products to market and -- most importantly -- making sure those products meet and surpass customers' needs," said REvolution Computing CEO Richard Schultz. Ms. Ranney was most recently vice president of ExaMetrix, a software development and consulting company she co-founded in 1999. Prior to that she held several senior management positions at Insightful Corp (formerly MathSoft, Inc.) where she was instrumental in producing S-PLUS, a data analysis and statistics package, and Aum, a technical graphics and data analysis package. A former faculty member at the University of Washington and the University of Michigan, Ms. Ranney completed undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan and earned her Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before joining REvolution Computing, Mr. Edlefsen was CEO and co-founder of ExaMetrix, the producer of ExaStat, an open source environment for analyzing huge data sets. Previously, he served as vice president of development for the Data Analysis Products Division at Insightful Inc. Mr. Edlefsen co-founded, grew, and sold two successful software companies, Aptech Systems -- the producers of the GAUSS Mathematical and Statistical System, and TriMetrix -- the creators of the Axum technical graphics and data analysis package. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University. Mr. Smith has a deep history with the statistical community. After graduating with a degree in Statistics from the University of Adelaide, Smith spent four years researching the multi-disciplinary Analysis of Large and Complex Datasets initiative while working as a Research Associate in the Department of Statistics at Lancaster University (U.K.), where he also developed a number of packages for the S-PLUS statistical modeling environment. Mr. Smith continued his association with S-PLUS at Insightful where for more than eight years he was the Director of Product Management for S-PLUS and other statistical and data mining products. Mr. Smith is the co-author (with Bill Venables) of the tutorial manual, An Introduction to R, and one of the originating developers of ESS: Emacs Speaks Statistics. Prior to joining REvolution, Mr. Smith was Vice President, Product Management at Zynchros, Inc.
