New Missions. New Opportunities. A New Generation of Users.
Our 3-day annual workshop includes hands-on tutorials in HDF, presentations on HDF standards in satellite observations of the Earth and related applications, updates on HDF tools, and status of ongoing development. This year we will feature a user forum to assess prioritizing future development. The workshop will be held in Denver, CO, October 15-17. Although there is no registration fee for the workshop, pre-registration by October 3 is suggested to guarantee access to the lunch-time speaking events and obtain group rate accommodations. NASA’s EOS data are crucial for global climate change researchers, and are also increasingly important for policy makers, educators, the private sector, and the general public. With over 4 petabytes of Earth science mission data and derived data products in HDF4 and HDF5 and an estimated 1.6 million users, one purpose of the workshop is ongoing training, including hands-on tutorials in the use of HDF and HDF-related applications. Lunchtime speakers are Mohan Ramamurthy from Unidata and Peter Fox from NCAR. Mohan Ramamurthy’s presentation on Wednesday will discuss Unidata's Approach to Community Broadening through Data and Technology Sharing. On Thursday Peter Fox’s presentation on Shifting the Burden from the User to the Data Provider will provide insight for the forum to discuss user needs to help prioritize ongoing development.
