Former SGI, Cray Executive to Guide System and Technology Development: Linux Networx, the company known for decreasing cluster complexity through practical innovation, announced that it has named high-performance computing (HPC) industry veteran Dave Morton as its new chief technology officer (CTO). Mr. Morton has over 17 years of experience in HPC as both a vendor and end user, serving in senior positions at the Maui High Performance Computer Center, Silicon Graphics Inc (SGI), and Cray Research. An expert in HPC hardware and software engineering and development, Mr. Morton will drive Linux Networx's continued focus on delivering greater value to customers through systems that are easy to use and deploy. "Linux Networx continues to achieve market success by bringing the expertise developed over years in large scale high performance supercomputing to smaller industrial and government customers," said Jack Kenney, CEO of Linux Networx. "Dave has the unique blend of customer and vendor expertise to build upon that foundation and deliver new levels of cluster simplicity and value through software development." In addition to assuming the role of CTO Mr. Morton will continue to serve as Linux Networx's vice president, research and development, a position he has held since January 2006. Mr. Morton will continue to lead the company's hardware, software and system validation engineering teams. Previously, Mr. Morton served as technical director for the Maui High Performance Computer Center where he was responsible for the definition and oversight of technology for this Department of Defense supercomputing center. He held several positions at SGI including director of server I/O and continuation engineering and director of Origin platform engineering. Dave's experience also includes eight years at Cray Research, where he was named inventor on three issued patents. Dave earned a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Minnesota.
