Japan Science and Technology Corporation Orders Cray XT3 Supercomputer

The system will be used primarily by Dr. Akira Nishida's group at the University of Tokyo's Department of Computer Science, for testing new software libraries for large-scale simulations. "The goal of Scalable Software Infrastructure (SSI) project is to develop parallel libraries with superior scalability and portability features. These are the fundamental tools needed to use increasingly large computing resources effectively," Dr. Nishida said. "Cray is proud that the Japan Science and Technology Corporation has selected the new Cray XT3 supercomputer for this important initiative to advance the state-of-the-art in parallel libraries," Mamoru Nakano, president of Cray Japan. "We expect the whole high performance computing community to benefit from the work of Dr. Nishida and his group."
