IBM and Swansea University to Build $93 Million Institute of Life Science

Davies said the ILS constitutes a "world-class facility" and a "major development in research power" focused on medical research into mainstream diseases such as diabetes, cancer and cardiac ailments. The facility will encourage research at the interface of bio and nano- technology, deep computing and informatics. "This multi-disciplinary approach will provide a tremendous stimulus for research into information-based medicine, equipping health-care professionals with the information they need to provide more personalised and preventive forms of treatment," said Davies. The ILS will also provide incubator facilities for spin-outs and is expected to create around 30 new companies.
