ATK Launch Systems Selects Linux Networx Supercomputers
"We selected a Custom Supersystem from Linux Networx because of the company's extensive experience with our key applications and the system's resulting price/performance value," said Ramesh Krishnan, Senior Staff Engineer at ATK Launch Systems. "The demand for high-fidelity models has increased in recent years along with the need to solve coupled physics problems and modeling of sophisticated material behavior. We believe that Linux Networx has the proven expertise in application tuning and system design we need to meet these sophisticated computational and visualization demands." "We are pleased to be selected as ATK Launch Systems' Linux Supercomputing partner," said Robert "Bo" Ewald, Chairman and CEO of Linux Networx. "Our Custom Supersystems will power mission critical applications that we believe represent state-of-the-art engineering, scientific and safety efforts for our nation's high technology space vehicles. Linux Networx will apply our supercomputing expertise to empower ATK engineers and scientists to focus on their most critical work efforts, while we provide the best supercomputing systems for their needs." ATK Launch Systems selected a 110-node LNXI Custom Supersystem powered by AMD Opteron dual processors, integrated visualization and a performance-tuned storage system. Aside from the 2.24 teraflops of compute power, the Supersystem features a Linux Networx visualization subsystem to display large scale analysis models. The integrated storage subsystem features 6TBs of performance capacity and a tuned Linux Networx GPFS high performance cluster file system. Linux Networx is tuning the system for use with a several computational fluid dynamics (CFD), aerodynamics, and structural analysis solutions including those from Abaqus, ANSYS, Fluent, UGS, NASA and other government laboratories. The system will primarily be used to perform aerodynamics simulations and structural integrity evaluations on launch systems and solid propulsion rockets,. The system will also be used as a general resource available to other ATK business units. Linux Networx Custom Supersystems are architected and tuned for specific application combinations to meet challenging, next-generation customer requirements for performance and safety. These systems are designed for new levels of Total Application Throughput by blending best-of-breed compute, visualization and storage components within tightly-integrated, highly-tuned supercomputing architectures. As an experienced system partner, Linux Networx works with customers and technology partners to identify and integrate a variety of emerging and proven technologies into a production-ready system. Linux Networx leads the design, integration and testing of these next generation supercomputing clusters to the exacting specifications of our customers.
