Univa Expands With Addition of Vas Vasiliadis as VP of Product Management

Vasiliadis most recently served as chief technology officer at Cimnet Systems, where he led development and marketing for a suite of business intelligence products. Previously, he was vice president of product management and vice president of corporate strategy at CrossWorlds Software. Under his leadership, CrossWorlds grew from a start-up to a successful public company and was acquired by IBM in 2002. "Univa is at the intersection of grid and open source software, both of which are growing rapidly," Vasiliadis said. "Enterprises are increasingly deploying Globus software to manage computing resources more cost effectively using open standards-based grid middleware. I'm excited to launch Univa's enterprise Globus products, which will be instrumental in further accelerating grid deployments within businesses." According to Insight Research Corporation, a technology research firm based in New Jersey, the worldwide market for grid technology and services will grow to $5 billion in 2008. At the center of this growth is Globus, an open source body of software for building grid infrastructures and applications, which allows companies to optimize existing resources and minimize capital expenditures. "Vas has great experience with software infrastructure technologies and developing effective go-to-market strategies," said CEO Steve Tuecke. "He will play a key role in launching Univa's Globus-based commercial software and bringing the benefits of grid computing, including increased flexibility and efficiencies, to mainstream enterprises." Prior to Univa, Vasiliadis also led product management and marketing for Promeria, a provider of supplier relationship management solutions to high-tech manufacturers. His consulting experience includes Booz | Allen | Hamilton, where he worked with manufacturers on supply chain strategies, and Accenture, where he developed large-scale systems for financial services companies. Vasiliadis earned an MBA with high distinction from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.
