SBS Technologies Unveils High Performance InfiniBand Switch
"This technology breathes new life into VME while protecting user investment over the past 2 decades. The IB4X-V41 InfiniBand switch and VXS1 InfiniBand Single Board Computer together deliver more than an order of magnitude increase in bandwidth to the VME bus data throughput. This InfiniBand switch coupled with the VXS1 InfiniBand SBC is an ideal combination for embedded systems designers creating products for the military, COTS, medical imaging and telecom markets," said Clarence Peckham, CEO of SBS Technologies. The IB4X-V41 The IB4X-V41 24-port InfiniBand switch is compliant with the VITA 41 specification for switched fabric interconnects delivering InfiniBand technology advantages of speed, bandwidth, quality of service and scalability on the standard VME bus. Offered in convection and conduction-cooled versions, the IB4X-V41 has 18 payload ports, four inter-switch connections and two front-panel copper connectors. The copper media can be converted to fiber through use of a media converter. At the core of the switch is a single, third-generation Mellanox Infiniscale III integrated switch semiconductor providing up to 480 Gb/s aggregate bandwidth. "As advanced CPUs and data acquisition drive up the requirements for performance backplane systems, InfiniBand technology delivers a true 10Gb/s embedded solution," said Chris Eddington, Director of Strategic Marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "SBS is leading this industry with the VXS1 system because they can now offer their VME customers the unsurpassed performance and value that InfiniBand technology-based products provide." The VXS1 The VXS1 6U VME PowerPC Single Board Computer offers the advantages of InfiniBand technology with the Mellanox MT23108 InfiniBand Host Channel Adapter (HCA), which includes two independent InfiniBand 4x links. The VXS1 is powered by the MPC7447A G4 PowerPC from Freescale, which provides core processor speeds from 500 MHz to 1 GHz and a 167 MHz system bus. The VXS1 has all the features one would expect from a processor board that redefines VMEbus performance, including a Marvell MV64460 PowerPC System Controller (Discovery III) bridge chip and 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The rugged 6U VXS1 SBC hosts one single-wide PMC site that supports a standard IEEE 1386.1 PMC module to easily expand I/O capability. The VXS1 also supports VME 2eSST synchronous protocol, which can provide data transfer rates up to 320 Mbytes/second. Both SBS Technologies products are offered in convection and conduction-cooled versions. Price and Availability: The IB4X-V41-AC Convection-cooled 24-port VITA 41 InfiniBand Switch is available now, priced at US$7,500. The VXS1IB110C Convection-cooled SBC is priced at $5,800 and will be available this quarter.
