DDN Increases TOP500 Presence by 4 Percent

DataDirect Networks (DDN) today announced a substantial increase in its presence among the world's 500 fastest supercomputers as ranked by the June 2010 35th edition of the TOP500 list available at www.top500.org.

The newly released system rankings show DDN systems used in conjunction with 113 of the world's top 500 HPC systems, growing from the 80 systems that DDN was associated with in June 2009 — representing a 40% year-over-year increase in technology adoption. The advancement is a resounding validation for DDN and is attributable to the high performance computing (HPC) products, vision and acute focus that DDN and its partners deliver to this highly technical customer community. Furthermore — on the heels of its recent selection by CEA to build the world's fastest HPC file system — DDN also announced that it continues to drive more aggregate storage bandwidth to the TOP500 than all other storage vendors combined.

    Other highlights from the recent TOP500 list include:
  • DDN HPC storage systems have been deployed to deliver a combined 1,100 GB/s of sustained storage performance. DDN HPC storage technology is used with over 13 petaflops of demonstrated supercomputing performance, equivalent to 13 quadrillion operations per second.
  • DDN technology is used in conjunction with seven of the world's top 10 supercomputers, and is the primary storage platform for the world's fastest supercomputer — the Jaguar supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). At 240GB/s, the DDN-powered Lustre file system which powers the Jaguar supercomputer stands as the world's fastest HPC storage system in production usage.

The TOP500 organization has published its bi-annual listing of the world's fastest supercomputers and supercomputing trends since 1993.
