Dawning demonstates first SSI-compliant blade supercomputer

The Server System Infrastructure Forum (SSI) today announced its participation at Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2010 Beijing, April 13-14, Booth #1090 at the China National Convention Center.

The SSI Forum and sponsoring  member, Dawning, Asia’s #1 supercomputing vendor, will demonstrate for the first time the world’s first SSI-compliant blade computing system with low- and high-speed switches. The demonstration will showcase SSI interoperability through a second-generation weather forecast delivery application using Dawning’s Gridview software. Components of the demonstration include:
  • The Dawning TC3600, the world’s first blade computing system that fully complies with SSI standards
  • The Dawning IM-D20 SSI-compliant, high-speed switch
  • Ethernet switches from H3C, including the Blade55102 low-speed switch and the Blade55110X high-speed switch
  • The demonstration will also feature compute blades from Intel and Dawning, as well as an InfiniBand Mezzanine Card and CMM from Dawning
“We are pleased to showcase this blade server demonstration to our industry peers at IDF 2010 Beijing, as it will be a crucial step in proving that products designed according to SSI specifications and that provide highly-efficient blade solutions are truly interoperable,” said Jim Ryan, chairman, SSI Forum. “The SSI Forum plans to follow up this demonstration by hosting a compliance and interoperability plugfest in the U.S., where members will have the opportunity to qualify for SSI blade compliance and obtain entry to the SSI Integrators list.”

By taking advantage of the industry-standard SSI ecosystem and SSI-compliant modules, companies can significantly reduce the resources and time required for product development, while offering their customers greater freedom of choice through industry standards and proven interoperability. At IDF 2009 San Francisco, Dawning announced the development and release of the TC3600 Blade System – the first fully SSI-compliant system.  The Dawning TC3600, which also complies with the HPCSC (High-Performance Computing Standard Committee) standard, was developed in collaboration with Intel and the SSI ecosystem.
