SAP Solutions Power Business Transformation at Symbol Technologies

Symbol Technologies is a world leader in enterprise mobility solutions, delivering solutions based on its advanced data capture technology, ruggedized mobile computers, wireless infrastructure and enabling software that capture, move and manage information in real time, from the point of activity to the point of decision. As a long-time SAP customer, Symbol was looking to add enhanced functionality to its existing implementations of SAP(R) R/3(R), SAP(R) Business Intelligence and mobile sales functionality of mySAP(TM) Customer Relationship Management (mySAP CRM). Over a period of 24 months, Symbol plans to roll out mySAP Business Suite to its global network of offices, connecting nearly 6,000 employees and several hundred partners. "We wanted a solution that would transform our entire business and enable us to execute on our corporate strategy," said John G. Bruno, Symbol senior vice president of business development and CIO. "Point solutions offered by other vendors were not an option, as we knew they would pose far greater complexity and integration problems. SAP provided the functionality we needed, and also offered the critical integration with our existing systems that allows flexibility for future developments. We are confident that SAP's solutions will enable us to drive further success now and in the years to come." As part of the rollout of mySAP Business Suite, Symbol will utilize mySAP CRM to create an integrated service management environment for customers that will feature a call center, contracts management, service depot and repair. Symbol will also use the handheld edition of SAP(R) Mobile Sales to provide the company's sales professionals access to critical customer information while away from the office. The SAP(R) Advanced Planning & Optimization (SAP APO) component within mySAP(TM) Supply Chain Management (mySAP SCM) will enable Symbol to improve the efficiency of its supply chain and reduce inventory levels. mySAP(TM) Supplier Relationship Management (mySAP SRM) will streamline Symbol's sourcing and procurement strategies to reduce costs and eliminate inefficiencies with suppliers. Internally, Symbol is also implementing the Human Capital Management (HCM) component of mySAP(TM) Human Resources (mySAP HR) to enable employee and manager self-services. "As a high-tech manufacturer, Symbol must orchestrate multiple suppliers, a complex partner ecosystem and an increased emphasis on service management," said Nils Herzberg, senior vice president, Manufacturing Industries, SAP. "SAP has years of experience addressing the most pressing issues faced by high-tech companies, and we welcome the opportunity to bring our expertise to Symbol. As a truly global company, we're well positioned to provide counsel and support to Symbol throughout every step of this ambitious worldwide implementation." SAP solutions for mobile business are powered by SAP(R) Mobile Infrastructure, a component of SAP NetWeaver(TM), the open integration and application platform that drives lower cost of ownership across heterogeneous IT landscapes and enables business change.
