Dell Adds Two New Managed Switches to PowerConnect Line

These switches are the first in the PowerConnect product line to incorporate enterprise-class features such as multi-layer quality of service and advanced management. They also support a variety of standards-based switching capabilities that ensure flexibility in optimizing overall network performance. "As open-standards among switches becomes more important within networks, customers are looking for resilient, interoperable switches that control network congestion and improve performance," says Kim Crawford, vice president and general manager of Dell Networking. "These two new switches provide customers with enterprise-level management features and are suited for wiring closets, high-performance workgroups, traffic aggregation and data-center connectivity." The Dell PowerConnect 3248, a 48-port Fast Ethernet switch with a maximum switching capacity of 13.6 Gbps, is priced at $1,499. The PowerConnect 5224, a 24-port Gigabit Ethernet switch with a maximum switching capacity of 48 Gbps, is priced at $2,499. With today's announcement, Dell now offers five managed and four unmanaged switches to meet the networking needs of small- and medium-size businesses and provide edge-connectivity for large corporations.
