Dell and EMC Bring Enhanced Storage Management Software to Market

Among the enhancements to Dell/EMC ControlCenter Navisphere software, MirrorView software and SnapView software suites is the ability for customers to securely manage storage networks from remote locations and increase the storage network's uptime. The enhanced software products join Dell and EMC's global offering of storage systems and services as new developments in the relationship since announcing the partnership in October of last year. "As IT managers continue to face constrained resources, simple and cost-effective storage management tools are essential to every organization's infrastructure," said Joel Schwartz, EMC's senior vice president and general manager, Midrange Systems Division. "EMC and Dell are bringing these new software features to market together as part of our partnership to help customers simplify data management, while providing the uptime and disaster recovery features that are critical to every business." Dell/EMC Navisphere software, MirrorView software and SnapView software suites provide a powerful set of tools that support and extend the capabilities of Dell/EMC storage by offering comprehensive data management, protection and consolidation through integrated and centralized control of storage resources. The software is operating system independent, is installed directly on the storage array and makes minimal use of server resources to help increase SAN uptime. Navisphere v.6.0 enhancements: -- Centralized, Web-based management interface enabling customers to monitor, configure and tune Dell/EMC storage securely from anywhere at any time using a JAVA-based Web browser; -- Enhanced security features designed to control access and protect the integrity of the storage system. MirrorView enhancements: -- Cost-effective disaster recovery and business-continuance capabilities through enhanced remote mirroring between geographically separated Dell/EMC FC4700 systems; -- The ability for customers to mirror up to four primary sites to a single secondary site and reduce their disaster recovery/business continuance costs by up to 20 percent. SnapView enhancements: -- Greatly improved operational efficiencies through customers being able to take multiple snapshots of a single LUN and perform multiple, simultaneous processes such as data backups or refreshes. Other Dell/EMC FC4700 platform enhancements: -- Management support for the full line of Dell(tm) PowerVault(tm) tape products; -- Additional boot from SAN for Dell(tm) PowerEdge(tm) servers and enhanced clustering capabilities to allow for increased uptime; -- Additional Unix server support. "The launch of the enhanced software suites along with the global deployment of Dell/EMC products and services demonstrates the momentum and demand created by our partnership," said Russ Holt, vice president of Dell's Enterprise Systems Group. "We will continue to deliver enterprise storage solutions based on real-world customer needs -- providing comprehensive, quality solutions with fantastic price-for-performance and world-class service capabilities." The enhanced software is planned to be available worldwide on Dell/EMC storage next month. For more information visit www.dell.com/emc.
