AMD named Sun best-in-class supplier for 2007

AMD recognized for “delivering superior quality and value” in 17th annual Sun Supplier Awards Program: AMD was named Best-in-Class Supplier for Standard Silicon in Sun Microsystems’ 2007 Supplier Awards program. The Supplier Awards recognize companies that make outstanding contributions to Sun’s record of delivering superior technology, quality service and excellent value to customers. “Since 2003, AMD and Sun have collaborated on some of the industry’s most innovative x64 platforms based on AMD Opteron™ processors, achieving numerous world-records for performance on the Solaris 10 operating system,” said Randy Allen, corporate vice president and general manager, Server and Workstation Division, AMD. “This award underscores our strong relationship with Sun and the distinct overall advantage that AMD’s superior Direct Connect Architecture continues to offer the marketplace. The tradition of joint Sun and AMD innovation will continue with Sun’s upcoming systems based on Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors.” The Best-in-Class Award evaluates the performance of all suppliers that delivered a similar product or service and recognizes the highest performer in that area. This award also considers suppliers that demonstrated significant improvement over the course of Sun’s fiscal year. “Sun’s direct-to-customer logistics model means we rely heavily on the support and determination of our supply base,” said Eugene McCabe, executive vice president of Worldwide Operations at Sun. “We congratulate the top suppliers that are helping us build a reputation for record on-time delivery, lead-time performance and superior support.”
