Dr. Gene Amdahl to Join MPT Board of Advisors
Massively Parallel Technologies, a provider of on-demand high-performance computing, today announced that Dr. Gene Amdahl will join the Board of Advisors of Massively Parallel Technologies. He will also participate on a panel discussion about the issues of parallel processing at MPT headquarters on December 7. "We are honored to have an industry icon like Dr. Amdahl join our board of advisors," said Scott Smith, chief executive officer of Massively Parallel Technologies. "Gene Amdahl is considered one of the fathers of supercomputing. He has made significant contributions to the supercomputing industry including his pioneering work in parallel processing." Gene Amdahl is a recognized authority on parallel processing. He crafted "Amdahl's Law" in 1967, which states that in parallelization there are issues that will eventually place an upper limit on the maximal speed of the system, therefore mitigating much of the benefit of parallelization. MPT's breakthrough technology has solved these issues and Amdahl's acceptance of the board position demonstrates his support for the company. He will participate in a discussion on parallel processing at MPT headquarters in Louisville Colo. on December 7. A reception will follow the presentation. "For more than 30 years my -- and pretty much everyone else's -- view was that parallel processing had limitations that precluded its viability as a low cost supercomputing solution," noted Amdahl. "MPT's technology is a true breakthrough that I believe will truly open the floodgates of processing power. My hope is that we can harness the untapped power of computers to find more efficient ways to conduct business while simultaneously helping advance scientific discovery. I look forward to working with this highly skilled team and developing some of the most powerful computers the world has ever seen."
