Dolphin Interconnect Intros WulfKit 3 High-Perf Parallel Computing Solution

DENVER, CO -- Dolphin Interconnect Solutions, developer of a family of high-speed interconnects based on the scalable coherent interface (SCI), today unveiled the new WulfKit 3 parallel computing clustering solution at the SuperComputing 2001 show in Denver. WulfKit 3 extends the high-performance legacy established by the WulfKit interconnect and Scali MPI software into the realm of a three-dimensional torus switching topology. Super clusters built on the three-dimensional torus architecture offer super scalability and superior parallel computing performance. WulfKit 3 bandwidth is benchmarked at a memory-to-memory transfer rate of 2 x 667 Mbytes/second, or about 10 Gbits/second. Offering extremely low latency of less than 3.5 microseconds for MPI Ping-Pong, WulfKit 3 is ideal for data-intensive and real-time processing applications. WulfKit 3 interconnect connects the PCI bus to three high-performance SCI rings, providing the X, Y and Z connections of the 3D torus. WulfKit 3 can be used to build very large HPC clusters employing AMD, Intel, Sun or Alpha processors. WulfKit supports a variety of operating systems, including Linux and Sun Solaris. WulfKit 3 uses the same message-passing interface (ScaMPI) used by the standard two-dimensional WulfKit. Developed by Scali AS of Oslo, Norway, ScaMPI is a native high-performance MPI implementation that features multithread safe, command line replication to all involved nodes in the cluster and simultaneous inter-node and intra-node MPI communication. ScaMPI can also interface to low-level hardware and OS functions for improved performance and reliability. WulfKit software includes modules for monitoring and management functions for the cluster and the interconnect, as well as secure remote management and application launching. The 3D PCI-SCI Adapter card used in WulfKit is also available from Dolphin as a stand-alone product for application areas such as storage systems, telecommunication systems, embedded solutions and simulators. Clusters built with WulfKit are currently being used for scientific and research computing in areas as diverse as astrophysics, biochemistry and fluid dynamics. With WulfKit 3, scientists, researchers and others who wish to process even larger amounts of data even faster can now build highly scalable thousand-node parallel processing superclusters that deliver performance on par or faster than supercomputers costing magnitudes more. WulfKit 3 is available for immediate shipment. For more information visit www.dolphinics.com
