Dot Hill Expands Master Distributor Partnership with UNIADEX in Japan

UNIADEX to offer Dot Hill’s Latest 2722 Fibre Channel RAID Solution, Featuring 2.5-inch Disk Drives

Dot Hill Systems Corp. today announced it has expanded its relationship with support and service provider UNIADEX Ltd in Japan. Under the terms of the new agreement, UNIADEX will deliver the 2722 Fibre Channel RAID array, Dot Hill’s newest storage offering that supports small form factor (2.5-inch) disk drives. Dot Hill 2722 arrays will be available to UNIADEX resellers and end-users throughout Japan.

“We're excited to be among the first to offer Dot Hill’s high density 2.5-inch disk- based integrated RAID storage solution,” said Tsuneo Akai, senior corporate officer for UNIADEX. “The 2722 offers UNIADEX customers a compelling set of features available with Fibre Channel, lower power capability and flexible support for a variety of drive types.”

The 2722 storage solution, based on the Dot Hill R/Evolution architecture, supports up to 24 serial attached SCSI (SAS) or serial ATA (SATA) drives in a 2U rack mount configuration that is also NEBs compliant. This adds to the existing Dot Hill 2730 Fibre Channel, 2330 iSCSI RAID array, and 5730 midrange Fibre Channel solutions already offered by UNIADEX.

“UNIADEX continues to be a valuable Dot Hill partner, allowing us to support the Japanese market with entry-level and midrange RAID offerings that deliver enterprise-class functionality,” said Andy Mills, Dot Hill's vice president of marketing. “By offering a solution that also supports the newer 2.5-inch SSD drive technology, we’re providing UNIADEX with the greatest possible flexibility to address their customer needs.”

Dot Hill 2722 Fibre Channel RAID Arrays
The Dot Hill 2722 is the first 2U, 24-drive bay, high performance, high density, external RAID storage system in the industry to incorporate 2.5-inch hard disk drives. The 2722 Fibre Channel (4Gb FC) array features intelligent, fully redundant enterprise-class controllers.

Featuring a variety of drive options (10,000 or 15,000 RPM SAS, and 5400 RPM SATA), these systems will support a maximum of 96 SAS drives for a total capacity of 28.8 terabytes based on the newest 300 gigabyte SAS drives. Utilizing SAS drives, the 2722 has measured performance of up to 230,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS), a 130 percent performance increase as compared to prior generation 2U, 3.5-inch equivalent capacities. With the use of 80 percent-plus efficient power supplies, the new arrays represent as much as a 34 percent power savings over 2U, 12-drive arrays of equivalent 3.5-inch spindle counts, greatly enhancing the green aspects of the design.
