Sybase, Inc. and Sun Microsystems, Inc., announced the general availability of Sybase(R) Adaptive Server(R) Enterprise (ASE) on the Solaris(TM) Operating System (OS) x86 Platform Edition. Additionally, Sybase ASE 12.5.1, Developer Edition is now co-packaged with Solaris OS SPARC and x86 Platform Editions, enabling customers to develop applications and evaluate the advantages of Sybase's enterprise-class relational database management system (RDBMS) on the Sun platform. The availability of Sybase ASE with the Solaris x86 platform provides customers with security and services manageability, while offering a low-cost computing alternative. Sun and Sybase are also announcing joint marketing and sales programs to address the growing interest and adoption of the Solaris OS x86 among Sybase's customers and partner community. With more than 400,000 registered licenses since January 2003, the Solaris OS x86 Platform Edition is rapidly gaining partner and customer momentum. With support from ISV partners such as Sybase, the Solaris x86 application portfolio continues to expand, now offering more than 1000 applications from over 600 partners.
