MSC.Software Helps VUKV Improve Design Quality

SANTA ANA, CA -- MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE:MNS), a leading global provider of simulation software, services and systems, today announced that Czech Republic-based VUKV reduced their design time and costs and increased safety and performance of rail structures by using MSC.Software products including MSC.Nastran, MSC.Patran, MSC.Marc and MSC.Mentat. VUKV is focused on designing and testing structural bodywork and other rail engineering components for passenger, freight and municipal rail transportation. "MSC.Software has worked hard to develop a strong, knowledgeable and experienced team of professionals in all world regions, and that has helped us better engage customers in high-growth industries like the rail industry," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "Rail engineers have some difficult engineering problems to solve, and our work with VUKV is an example of the ways in which the MSC.Software team worldwide applies our technology and services to help customers grow their businesses." "Our development of the new technically demanding rail structures and systems would not be possible without using the newest simulation methods. That is why VUKV uses MSC.Software's proven software applications to solve our toughest engineering problems," said Zdenek Malkovsky, VUKV. "Customer confidence in our designs is higher because of our use of MSC.Software's certified software applications." Over the last nine years, VUKV has focused on expanding their business to Western and Middle Europe. Like many small Eastern European manufacturers, VUKV has been forced to dramatically upgrade their technical sophistication to compete with other European companies and meet the strict design, performance and safety requirements of the major European manufacturers. By utilizing simulation software and related applications, VUKV has been able to increase their revenue year over year to approximately $3.4 million USD in 2001 and for the first time engage with major rail customers such as Siemens, Bombardier, Alstom and Skoda. VUKV uses MSC.Software applications to do a wide variety of simulation and analysis including linear-static structural analysis, non-linear analysis of impacts and deformations, NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) analysis and fatigue/durability simulations. These tools have allowed VUKV to create more stable, safer designs. In one rail car development, VUKV was able to optimize the design and decrease the weight of the car by 15% while simultaneously increasing the safety and performance of the structure.
